Susan Sevenz M.S., CISW, Therapist

Thank you for visiting our website. Alliance Counseling consists of a diverse and talented staff of caring people. I hope that after reading about each of us you will find someone within our group to answer your questions and assist you with your counseling needs.

Reaching out to someone is difficult without knowing something about the person, so allow me to share a part of my background and experiences with you. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and my undergraduate teaching degree from the University of Colorado. I am also a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where I received a Master of Science degree in Educational Psychology.

I spent eleven years in education. Most of this time I taught at the middle school level in the areas of earth science and biology. I have full time teaching experience in parochial, public, and private boarding schools as well as substitute teaching experience in a juvenile detention center.

My teaching years were followed by a 24-year career as a social worker within the Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services. My role within the department focused on child protective services. During these years, I developed an expertise in the areas of child abuse and neglect. I also acquired a strong background and knowledge in family dynamics as I provided in-home services, including counseling, using a family based approach that included grandparents, parents, children and other significant adults. Because of this work, I acquired an understanding of the circuit court system and very specific knowledge of the Juvenile Court system.

Although my career as an active social worker has ended, I continue to follow my strong interest in the well-being and protection of children. I do this on a statewide level by participating as a Certified Lead Case Reviewer for the State of Wisconsin. In this capacity, I travel throughout the 72 counties of our state and assist in the review and evaluation of various county programs dealing with child protective services.

The years I spent advocating for the protection and proper care of children led me into the larger issue of domestic violence. My interest in this area includes working with victims, perpetrators, and children touched by domestic violence. I am a Certified Batterers Treatment Provider and work in that capacity within Alliance Counseling’s 16-week treatment program. I also have a strong interest and solid expertise working with victims of sexual abuse. My other certifications include completion of the Substance Abuse Certificate Program sponsored by the University of Wisconsin Division of Continuing Studies as well as attending numerous trainings on substance abuse and addiction issues. As a consequence, I have worked with numerous clients dealing with substance abuse problems.

I have lived in this area most of my life. I am married and have two children and three grandchildren.
